Weta Workshop Darkchylde Test Footage Revealed:
See the teaser trailer exclusively at Newsarama.com
Darkchylde is the tale of a good hearted southern teen cursed to become the creatures from her many recurring nightmares. Creatures that destroy all she holds dear. Offering a stark contrast to super hero comics,
the title was a breakout sensation of the late 90's and early 2000's, garnering creator Randy Queen immediate acclaim, and an unusually large female fanbase. The property went on to outsell Spider-Man, Superman,
and Batman in both domestic and foreign audiences, and has been realized in toys, trading cards, apparel, lunch boxes, mini busts, and more recently a hit crossover with Top Cow, and a statue from
PopCutureShockToys: PopCultureShockToys.com Having entered the digital age, fans can now read the Ariel Chylde saga online via Wowio.com.
With proven pedigree in pocket, Randy and Sarah Queen's Darkchylde Ent. allied with Richard Taylor, and the Academy Award Winning Weta Workshop, along with many of the team who
helped bring Lord of the Rings, and King Kong to life, and began breathing filmic life into Darkchylde. Only Newsarama has the exclusive test footage.
"What we're showcasing for Newsarama readers is hard won, self produced, test footage for a proposed 20-25 million budgeted Darkchylde film," says Queen. "We are the underdogs,
so it's important to not expect Avatar or Iron Man footage, you know? We're giving a glimpse behind the curtain of a smaller, more intimate horror film we are cultivating, something on the
scale of Carrie, but with a more impressive FX resource for Ariel's dreamscapes and the creatures she becomes."
"If I can draw it, we can shoot it, it's just a matter of getting the right people involved," offers Queen. "I'm not interested in having someone give me a nickel to go away so they can reverse engineer
something that doesn't need it. We've spent 8 years carefully cultivating this film project, and Weta's celebrated craftsmanship ensures a certain artistic integrity as a personal sentiment for horror fans.
A lot of love has gone into creating the haunted world of Ariel Chylde. Most interesting is that every time she sheds her skin, a new creature emerges we've never seen before, so audiences never know
what to expect. It's a terrific, market proven concept. And as a fright fan, I want to see the new ideas. I want to see fresh characters that could become as vital to this generation as Freddy, Jason and
Michael were to mine, and at this budget level, well crafted horror shows terrific return. We've got the script. Darkchylde is ready to fly. We are actively seeking producing partners and
independent financing." Verifiable inquiries may be sent to Randy@darkchylde.com

PEOPLE LOVE THE DARKNESS/DARKCHYLDE: KINGDOM PAIN!
From Cosmic Book News
5 STARS.
Awestruck. That’s what I am. I’ve just finished reading The Darkness & Darkchylde: Kingdom of Pain and I’m awestruck. Awestruck by the writing. Awestruck by the art. Awestruck by the coloring. Awestruck.
Queen’s writing never fails to entertain. At times it soars – reading like poetry: "As the roses cast off icy prisons and petals take to wind like once shackled spirits sailing into sky." At other times it’s gritty: "I’d probably get along with this crazy bitch if she wasn’t trying to kill us". At all times it captivates interest.
Sarah Queen’s coloring is jaw-droppingly gorgeous – solidifying Randy’s place in the top tiers of comics artistry. Comics art and coloring literally don’t get any better than that seen in Kingdom of Pain.

Right off the bat this story has three things going for it: The dialog, the narrative and the art. Randy Queen has spent most of his career writing and drawing Darkchylde, so it goes without saying that he knows the character. What some may find shocking is how well he nails the character of Jackie. Miss Happy and Jackie have almost three full pages of dialog going back and forth at each other all of it is interesting.
The art is simply beautiful -- Queen's pencils are extremely detailed making him perfect to draw all three characters. He puts his own mark on the Darkness character by giving him new armor. Darkchylde is drawn as a walking contradiction. She's sexy and yet lacks any real confidence; Queen captures this with her facial expression throughout the story.
This issue does a lot more than pair two franchises in a one-shot. It actually sets out to tell a meaningful story in both universes. It adds character to Jackie while breathing new life into Darkchylde. Top Cow could really have a hit if it figured out how to add Darkchylde to the Artifacts Universe.

The dialogue Queen has created between Jackie and the little girl Miss Happy is just fantastic. They engage in some great back and forth in a bid to find out who each other is and what they want. It seems very natural, has some dry humor, and it really sucks you into the story. Like Jackie, you find yourself willing to go anywhere with the story.
At one stage Jackie remarks, "...it's absolutely stunning," and that's definitely true with this one-shot.

Message from Randy:
Sorry for not updating in so long, we've devoted every waking hour crafting the oversized 40 pg. Darkchylde Crossover. Sarah and I did the art, writing, coloring, lettering and design on this huge book, and we are pleased with the final results and hope fans will be happy. Also taking up a lot of our time is the production of the new Darkchylde statue from PopCutltureShock. We will also be releasing the Weta Test Foortage for a Darkchylde feature film very soon. Now that the crossover is done, I will be turning my attention to finishing up existing commissions, and hope to get moving on Starfall again. I am currently posting in the TopCow.com Forums, and will have a deviant art page up in June. Be on the look out for Crossover Variants, and brand new art prints this summer.
Thank you for your interest in our work,

7/25/09: THE DARKNESS DARKCHYLDE CROSSOVER!
You asked for it, you got it! Ariel Chylde returns to comics, courtesy of Top Cow, Jackie Estacado and a new, corrupted Darkness Armor! KINGDOM PAIN arrives Christmas 2009!
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
THE RETURN OF DARKCHYLDE AND THE RELEASE OF STARFALL
THE DARKNESS AND DARKCHYLDE CROSSOVER
LOS ANGELES, Calif., July 25th, 2009 – Top Cow Productions, Inc. proudly announced today that Randy Queen, the creator of Darkchylde, and colorist Sarah Queen will be teaming up with Top Cow Productions to reintroduce Ariel Chylde to comics. This December, fans can expect to see the brand new crossover event, Darkness/Darkchylde, descending on finer comic book stores near you. Within this spectacular new crossover there will be an 8 page exclusive preview for the long-awaited series, Starfall, and the premiere of Jackie’s corrupted Darkness armor.
"The positive reaction to the Starfall announcement last year was noticed, as was the many fans asking for the return of Ariel Chylde. So this evolved naturally from that reaction,” says creator Randy Queen.
“We didn't just want to offer up an appetizer,” explains Randy Queen, “we wanted it to matter. So it was decided that, because the crossover sort of brings Ariel back to the marketplace, that art should imitate life and the story should reflect this.”
So what can fans expect from this exciting new crossover event?
“Jackie inhabits Ariel's Nightmares and is responsible for awakening her from a seven year, self imposed exile. Inversely, because he is in her Nightmare world, when he summons his Darkness Armor, it comes over corrupted, and reconfigured by the place. You get two fresh perspectives on fan favorite characters, and it's the kind only seven years of distance, and objectivity can bring."
"I'm throwing down the gauntlet and making a statement with this book. We took the time to ensure you get polished, finished craft, with beautiful colors, and it's a fun story where important, organic things happen which should be of interest to old and new readers. “
“It's my first crack at the Darkness, and the first new Darkchylde story since our last issue special in 2002. Plus you get 8 pages of Starfall on top of it. Ariel can become her nightmares. Jackie is a nightmare. You'll see the differences and similarities in tandem, and get a taste of something completely new to boot. It's one exciting package," concluded Queen.
“Randy Queen is one of those renaissance guys, who has played with every aspect of comic book creation as well as film and video games. He and Sarah have a fierce dedication to their craft and putting forward the absolute highest level of excellence,” commented Top Cow Publisher, Filip Sablik, “Randy actually also began his career at Top Cow, so in a way this is fun homecoming for all of us.”
Fans can be on the lookout for The Darkness/Darkchylde in December 2009. The stand alone special will be a 48 page comic book.
